Avaaz cannot independently verify the video but Pentagon officials have promised to investigate. CNN has examined the story and, without reaching a conclusion, quotes a "senior Marine Corps official" speculating on the uniforms and equipment of the men, implying the video is genuine. If true, it is just another harrowing example of the culture of inhumanity at the heart of the "war on terror".
