Ever wondered what the stars look like from space? Now you can find out: astronaut Don Pettit, aboard the International Space Station, has photographed their paths. The series of time-lapsed photographs captures unique views of the turning Earth below a stream of stars.
The Expedition 31 flight engineer took a series of 30-second shots with a digital camera and "stacked" them using imaging software, to produce the longer exposure. The result is the outline of an unrecognisable Earth, a rainbow of stars shooting across the sky, and an enchanting series of images:
